Abstract

We believe consideration of environmental aspects has become one of the evaluation factors for carmakers. Bumpers have been taken up as a target of recycling as they can circulate in large quantities in the market. There are some problems in recycling of bumpers compared to another parts. In the case of bumper-to-bumper recycling, there are two particular problems, which need to be resolved.

First is the technology challenge in bumper-to-bumper recycling. In order to resolve these technology matters, a sandwich forming method was developed. An HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) is added to keep the strength from decreasing when recycling materials.

Second is to construct a bumper gathering system. Using various delivery services, anyone bumper may be assembled from any place in Japan, where a Honda vehicle is involved.

In this report, we would like to introduce essential condi- tions for recycling, a production method for recycling bumpers and a practical application with data using an actual production line.
