Abstract
This paper describes an application of the Product Engineering Tool (PET) to the concept assessment, packaging, and engineering and analysis of automotive engine valve trains. A brief overview of PE?: as a generic design tool, is also given. The PET consists of two modules: a knowledge based system and a CAD module which generates solid models of components and assemblies. presently; design engineers use PET mainly at the conceptual design stage for powertrains. However, it ican also be used for assessment and design of other automotive systems and components.
