Use of Specific Dissipation to Evaluate the Performance of Vehicle Condenser, Radiator and Fan Module

Abstract

Traditionally during the development of a condenser, radiator and fan module (CAFM), the engine cooling is often evaluated with Air-to-Boil (ATB) and condenser performance is often evaluated with is soak and cool- down (SCD) test, but the research carried out at the AM IT has found that Specific Dissipation (SD) is better than ATB and SCD for the evaluation of condenser and radiator performance. SD offers a method that significantly increases the throughput of experiments that evaluate the heat rejection of both condenser and radiator.

This paper presents how SO can be used to evaluate the effect of the following factors on condenser and radiator performance: a) sealing around condenser and radiator, b) cooling fan, c) fan supply voltage, d) condenser configuration, and e) cooling fan backpressure.
