Abstract
An investigation of gasoline parameters for motorcycle emission reduction was conducted. MTBE, ethanol, and aromatic contents were parameters of interest. A test pro- gram was carried out on an engine test bed using steady state test conditions. Ten fuels and three motorcycle en- gines were selected for the program. Results show that gasoline with 5% MTBE can help reduce regulated and unregulated emissions. Analysis of cylinder pressure data also confirms that low cycle-to-cycle variations and fast burning are attained by using gasoline with 5% MTBE. Results also reveal that catalytic converters work ineffi- ciently due mainly to low motorcycle exhaust temperatures.
