Abstract

While the state-of-the-art of a standard design workflow requires a phase of digital mock-up, aimed at checking the geometrical coherence of complex assemblies of components, an improved approach could be envisaged when coupling the geometry data with the structure behavior under standard maneuvers, thus verifying the assemblies in real operating conditions.

To strengthen this thesis, a methodological study has been performed on a rear door system, focusing on its physical behavior, i.e. on what has been defined as “physical digital mock-up”. To reach this aim a detailed multibody model of the rear door system has been developed with the specific task of analyzing the on-duty conditions of the assembly, taking into account body flexibility and investigating the dependency from production tolerances through a stochastic approach.
