Abstract
The region Berlin-Potsdam is one of the eight German model regions for electric mobility. According to useroriented approach the ambition of the model region program is to test and to assess electric mobility under day-to-day conditions. This includes the interactions of vehicles and infrastructure, the monitoring of the user’s behavior in passenger and freight transport as well as the introduction of new mobility patterns connected to the characteristics of battery powered vehicles. In addition, the model region program is political driven. That means, electric mobility cannot be an end in itself, it must contribute to the strategic objectives of the urban policies, e. g. environmental policy, climate protection, transport policy as well as urban development. First results of the in-field projects in the German Capital region prove the suitability for daily use. On the other hand a lot of technical and organizational issues has already been identified that must be resolved before large scale market penetration of electric vehicles can happen. Berlin-Potsdam is going to make the first experiences. At the same time the region is prepared to develop itself to a visible international “shop windows” for this future-oriented kind of sustainable mobility.
