Abstract

Tracklever system is a motorcycle rear suspension configuration that creates independence between power transmission and suspension in motorcycles equipped with secondary chain drive. The main effect is to avoid the “highsides” when the motorcycle recovers grip after rear wheel slides. Also, it is possible to configure the geometry to reach an stable point of equilibrium, instead of the unstable equilibrium of current motorbikes. The perturbations in grip do not affect to the position of the swing arm.

In essence, the procedure consists of making parallel the directions of the reaction force between the tyre and the ground and also the force of the chain, both with the swing arm. So, the torques related to its axis are equal and opposite, and consequently, there are no oscillations. It is possible to recover good grip without violent movements of the swing arm. The traction is improved, because the rear wheel remains the contact with the ground more constant. Also, the damping and elastic parameters of the suspension can be fitted more easily.
