Abstract
This paper describes the design and optimisation procedure of Frontal Underrun Protective Devices (FUPD) for medium and light NISSAN trucks, by means of complex and well correlated Finite Element Models. This process is developed under the ECE Regulation No. 93 point of view, with the additional NISSAN target of provide as much energy absorption as possible. Some examples are presented in that way.
Validation by experimental testing for the final FUPD designs is also carried out, showing good agreement with model results as are presented in this paper. Finally, some considerations related to current limits fixed by regulation are discussed and future research lines are proposed.
