Abstract

Noise reduction of diesel engines for heavy duty vehicles is becoming one of the most important points of work, to achieve the present noise levels stablished by the international standards about measurements of noise emitted by road vehicles (ISO 362).

It is also necessary to obtain a low noise level in the truck cabin for lightening fatigue with long comfortable driving.

The paper shows an overview of the work developed within the Iveco engine 535 H.P. noise reduction project, and in more detail the part of the work consisting of the treatment applied to the brake compressor area , to avoid the stationary waves created between engine block and air compressor body.

The study was carried out using the Acoustic Intensity method and spectral analysis.
