Abstract

The first part of the paper gives an overview of the background necessity to decrease the response time and the transient oscillations of the mixture preparation closed loop control system.

The paper continues with a general description of the mixture transfer physics for an SI-engine. The port injected concept as well as the direct injected (GDI) engine is discussed. The layout principle of an enhanced self adapting control strategy is presented and an application on a 1.4 litre, 4 cylinder engine is discussed. Details of several models are highlighted along the description of the application example.

The paper concludes with some vehicle results and a discussion of the application areas in which the enhanced self adapting control concept offers an improvement.
