Abstract

If developing CAN-based distributed control systems you should consider some general guidelines to design your system. In addition, the ECU (electronic control unit) manufacturer should avoid problems by choosing a CAN controller chip that fits for this application.

The CAN controller chips do not differ in the network communication services, but they have different intermediate storage capability and acceptance filtering functionality. The paper will discuss these design rules and selecting criterias in detail, and gives, some recommendation and hints for CAN device developers and CAN network system integrators.
