Abstract

The Engineering Center Steyr of the Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG offers world-wide client related truck-, farm tractor- and transmission engineering as well as engineering services for passenger cars, trucks, farm tractors and engines.

A lot of investigations on the development of Independent Front Suspensions were carried out.

This know-how has been constantly increased by the diverse services for several truck and bus manufacturers. The know-how for the development of vehicles has been built up during many decades. Currently about 80 clients world-wide are supported.

Innovative methods in the area of analysis, simulation, measurement technology, test-bench and test driving trials were used to achieve the goals in riding comfort, handling, controllability, rolling and shimmy with a justifiable level of effort.

In order to achieve these goals also a large number of kinematic investigations were undertaken. For adequate performance and costs, the double-wishbone type was chosen for prototype design. The suspension system can be fitted with either coil spring, air spring or hydraulic systems.
