Abstract

In our days the car manufacturers work hardly in order to develop safer cars. To achieve this target the way that they usually have followed has been to improve the bodyshell stiffness and also the Safety restraint system.

The basic restraint system used in the automotive industry is the Seat Belt, but in the last years a new component has been included in the Restraint Systems: the Airbag. The accident researchers have found some cases where the airbag activation could have caused serious injuries to the car occupants. Some of the most common accident situations are those related with unbelted children seated on the passenger seat or people that are seated too close to the steering wheel or the Instrument Panel.
