Abstract
The ratio changing speed (shift speed) of a Metal V-belt CVT is investigated on the basis of experimental results. The experimental results show that there are two modes of shifting. One is slip mode under the conditions of a very small clamping force on either of the two pulleys. In slip mode, a gross slip is expected to occur between the belt and pulleys even under no load conditions. The other is creep mode under the conditions of normal clamping forces. The characteristics of the shift speed in slip mode are very different from those in creep mode.
