Abstract
The paper presents an overview on electric and hybrid electric vehicles and wants to be a synthesis of the deep study of a massive volume of documents. It tries to emphasise some of the characteristics and performances of this type of vehicles, also some of their limits and problems. The conclusions drown by the author try to estimate the future evolution, taking into account the challenge of the zero emission goal, requested by the next century.
