Abstract
The paper presents and proposes a novel approach on automotive alternator operation parameters.
Assuming that the alternator operates on its rated load characteristic, the oscillation of the actual operation point on the lower segment of the I=f(n) plot are studied. For a concrete operating condition, after a low temperature starting process, with a low battery state of charge, the alternator operates at its maximum ratings, depending on the input driving speed. Assuming worst-case conditions ,generally encountered when the engine is idling or running in the low-speed range, the alternators speed is low too and with its operation point strongly exposed to various external influence factors. The influence of several quantities considered input and /or disturbance factors is examined and conclusions on battery energy balance are drawn.
