Abstract
The paper presents the achievement principle of a device for measuring steady mode mechanical power output of thermal piston engines. The measurement result is displayed digitally after two revolutions of the engines crankshaft.
This device enables the measurement of the engines loading degree as well as the maximum mechanical power output. Also, the device allows the engines mechanical characteristic determination. The original aspect of the paper consist in the calculation method utilised for the torsion angle of the calibrated torsion bar, to determine the engines torque and speed as elements necessary to calculate the mechanical power. The digital system employs an original method of loading the counters of the computing circuit, with signasl of different frequencies, proportional with the engines speed, this using the computing systems maximum capacity, independently of the speed. The system may be applied especially on thermal engine test rigs or electric traction motors test rigs.
