Abstract
The increasingly tougher competition in the automotive market on one hand and the stricter international regulation on the other hand, have determined the designers to explore the limits of engines processes and systems. One of the greatest resources for further development is the mixture formation process. The ecologic performances of one engine are greatly influenced by the degree of perfection with which this process is controlled. The paper presents the different mixture formation mechanisms in the direct injection engine and their influence on the engines emissions.
