Abstract: Nowadays road Safety has a protagonisme without precedents in our society. The population sensibilitation that sees, for instance, Automotive is the first and main cause of youth mortality cause has absolutely been decisive to drive the parties concerned in road Safety in working together to improve the actual situation.
The accident is the fatal accumulation of different circumstances that might be analysed on scientific criteria. This analysis is necessary to get to know better the parameters involved in an accident as well as its interactions. The accidents research pretends to incorporate the analysis of all the elements and consequences derived from an accident at the very instant of it.
The objective of the BIA project (Barcelona Investigación de Accidentes) is to create a complete and reliable data base that can be used as a real tool for analysing and researching in depth the traffic accidents besides the variables involved in them, in such a large city as Barcelona.
The methodology to follow is to research accidents in situ, together with the work of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, that will be dealing with medical matters, and the Càtedra Applus+ and the Escola Tècnica Superior dEnginyeria Industrial de Barcelona, that will be dealing with technical matters, so the most of parts involved in a traffic accident will be widely covered.
The Hospital Clínic de Barcelona has put at the technicals disposal, in order to realise the research in situ of the traffic accident, their ambulances, as a quick medium of transport to get at the accident spot at the very first moment of it. In this way, other than the ambulance staff, there will be a technician of the Càtedra Applus+ at the mentioned vehicle.
The goal of the project is to acquire an exhaustive accident knowledge by studying the accidented people and the variables that have place in it. We take this information directly from the accident scene and at not long afterwards. Also, the investigation includes a later evaluation about the vehicles and the victims evolution. To get an knowledge Why and What the accidents will be, and the consequences accidentated has, is the first step in order to find solutions decreasing traffic accidents and the social problems that they carry out.
