Abstract - Pedestrian Protection is an increasing concern for governments, automobile driver associations and car makers.

In the past some studies were carried out in order to achieve ways of improving car performance on this issue, but some of them sometimes could hardly go into final production, as they were too expensive or just impossible to fit within a car’s package. However, this is rapidly changing due to the next EU Directives that will force car makers to accomplish with a certain level of protection for the pedestrians.

In this paper we will see how an efficient system to gain Pedestrian Protection in the bumper area was developed inside a real new car project. Problems of package, conflicts with other load cases and methodology will be presented. Focus will be made in the use of simulation tools during all stages of the development.
