Abstract - In this paper a detailed theoretical analysis about how the tyre kinematics is affected by a differential in completely locked conditions is presented. In particular, the attention is focused both on the derivation of analytical expressions for the tyre slip vectors of a solid axle and on how these affect the whole vehicle dynamics.

The equations of motion of a vehicle model with locked differential are then developed; these are formulated in general form, that does not depend on the actual constructive features of the vehicle, such as the suspension or the steering subsystems.

The steady state behaviour is investigated using a model developed in the first section of the work; results are discussed in comparison with those of a linear model which was described in a previous paper.
