Abstract - After the successful experience of the integration of simulation tools in the development process of SEAT IBIZA gaining a high confidence level in its application as well as cost and time savings, in a process still based on two prototype phases, SEAT went a step further in the development of its latest product by eliminating one prototype phase completely.
The building blocks of this success story consist in an organisational structure which foment team work, in-sourcing of highly qualified and dedicated personal, confidence in simulation based on the knowledge of its capability and limitations, the subsequent change in the definition of the development process and investment into the necessary hardware power and software selected according to the demands of the development process.
The objectives: cutting time to market and raising the quality of the development w. r. t. technical solutions, mature ness of the different liberation milestones as well as cutting development cost within a demanding and complex market context of reshaping the image of SEAT.
