Abstract - For the first time, Honda has independently developed a new turbo charged diesel engine (Intelligent- Common Rail Turbocharged Direct injection: hereafter i-CTDi).
Through the application of a DOHC four-valve direct injection system and a high-pressure turbo charger, this i-CTDi engine achieves both high power output and high fuel economy. Also, through the utilization of a new 1600 bar common rail control system, an EGR cooler system and after-treatment device, this engine has conformed to the Euro-IV regulations at an early stage.
The new Accord for Europe, which uses this new engine, is powerful yet achieves the high quality cabin sound and low vibration levels, associated with a luxury vehicle. This report discusses noise and vibration reduction by applying a 2 nd order-vibration balancer and combustion noise reduction by optimizing pilot injection as well as via the application of a principal axis of inertia type mounting system with torque rods.
