Abstract - Despite shorter development times and increasing requirements on the software, software quality and customer satisfaction must be maintained or even increased without increasing cost. In order to shorten product development time, it is necessary to parallel and decouple mechanical, electronic, and software development. Test beds for possible simulations are necessary for parallel and independent software development. The maintenance cost can be reduced by reusing simulation models in various test beds. If tests are shifted to earlier phases, then the development cost is reduced. The use of models in control unit functions enables new functionalities and can reduce the development cost. Here it is important to develop simple processes for preparing model parameters. The model-based process and its achieved benefit will be demonstrated using the example of the software development for transmission controls.
