Abstract - The paper presents a shock absorber mathematical model implemented to investigate different kinds of dampers, both mono-tube and twin-tube, for race cars and passenger cars, with different kinds of orifices. A detailed sensitivity analysis concerning the influence of shock absorber main parameters on the overall vehicle behaviour was performed. Simulations were carried on, e.g., modifying friction between the tube and the piston, gas pressure, orifice diameters, blow-off valve pre-charge, oil viscous properties. Preliminary experimental shock absorber model validation is accurately described. Finally, the damper model was integrated in different vehicle models to evaluate the influence of shock absorbers characteristics both on comfort and handling, considering also suspensions antidive effect.
