Abstract –

The development of the applied on automotion mechatronics has made possilbe to raise the substitution of the actuator of the parking brakes, a lever until the present time, by an electric actuator (EPB).

This technology fulfills the basic function, that is the braking of the vehicle during the parking. Moreover, it allows the implementation of more intelligent functions, mainly the control of the braking throughout the time the automatic release of the brake when the driver starts moving the vehicle (drive away and hill holder) or the emergency brake of the vehicle without wheel blocking (dynamic braking).

The analysis of these requirements, under different criteria, has led Ficocables to different conceptions of EPB.

Under the criteria of generating a compact and nonreversible system was generated an spindle actuator EPB. With the objective of obtaining a quick response during the dynamic braking, it has been designed the Inertial EPB. A double actuator EPB has been raised in order to get a good response during the dynamic braking and to improve the reliability of the system. In order to minimize electrical consumption a Cam actuator EPB has been developed.

The operation of these different conceptions and the design criteria to obtain them are explained in the present article.
