Abstract
Hyundai motor company developed a fuel cell hybrid electric vehicle(FCHEV) which is powered by a fuel cell system operating near ambient pressure and a Ni-MH battery system which is connected to the fuel cell output power bus through a high power bi-directional DC/DC converter. The main objective of hybrid controller is to maximize the efficiency of the vehicle with constraints such as battery SOC ranges and the available power ranges considering the life time of fuel cells and batteries. A fuzzy logic controller based on the experts knowledge base is suitable for controlling the power distribution with many constraints in dynamic driving conditions. In this paper, we would like to present that the design and implementation of a fuzzy logic controller that increases vehicle efficiency. The vehicle efficiency improvements by fuzzy logic power distribution controller are 19% and 20% in Japan 10-15 and FTP72 mode, respectively.
