Abstract

As a part of proving ground durability tests, the accelerated durability test can prove the durability of vehicle structure and chassis parts in a short period at a designed road which has severe surface conditions. Sometimes this test method causes physical fatigue in the test driver due to the severe driving conditions, and reduces the reliability of test results because of his difficulty maintaining constant speed. The unmanned vehicle driving system was developed to overcome this problem. In order to develop this unmanned driving vehicle, lots of systems were applied such as speed control and steering control by use of PID control with acceleration feed back principles. These systems include a position and distance sensing system for the recognition of absolute and relative driving position, a driving control system for the control of whole driving circumstances, an emergency and multi-safety system for responding to system errors, a wireless modem system for driving control of multiple simultaneously driving vehicles, and a camera system for monitoring driving circumstances during the test. The unmanned vehicle driving system was validated by operating the auto driving system during the development of new car projects, and this system will be the basic step toward all future traffic systems.
