Traffic Flow Simulation System by Cellular Automata

Abstract

This paper describes traffic flow simulation system by Cellular Automata, in which a traffic flow emerges considering local interactions of each vehicle and the traffic flow is controlled by optimizing the period of traffic signals using Genetic Alogorithm. Various types of road module such as crossings, straight roads or T-type intersections are prepared, and traffic flow on arbitrarily composed road network can be simulated by the system. On this system, the period of traffic signals can be optimized so that the total number of stopping vehicles may be minimized on the simulation area.
