Abstract

This paper describes a useful method to evaluate the yawing moment generated by various types of chassis controls. Computer simulation is used to calculate yawing moment, while a flat belt chassis dynamometer is used to measure the actual yawing moment. The following results are obtained : The yawing moment generated by the differential of longitudinal force between right and left wheels is little affected by lateral acceleration. The yawing moment generated by four wheel steering decreases with the increase in lateral acceleration. These results are verified by actual running tests, and give good insight into an effective control scheme.
