Abstract
The Truck Tire Testing Vehicle presented in this paper is a means of measuring tire characteristics on real pavements. On-road measurements are compared to measurements from a 2 m drum dynamometer to point out the differences that result from different conditions in the contact area. In addition to steady-state tire characteristics the transient behavior of forces and moments can also be revealed. This provides reliable and realistic data for validating tire models for simulating heavy vehicle dynamics.
