Abstract

This research examined methods to theoretically express the influences of the motor inertia and viscosity to steer feeling in Electric Power Steering (EPS) systems without using an actual vehicle. First, an evaluation method for expressing steer feeling, for example "inertial feeling" or "viscous feeling", was proposed from the perspective of how drivers judge steer feeling. Next, how steer feeling should be expressed in the proposed steer feeling evaluation method was described. A control design based on the proposed evaluation method was also described, together with a method that achieves a balance between steer feeling and system stability. Finally a vehicle was equipped with this control. And the steer feeling of this vehicle was evaluated. In the result, it was confirmed that the steer feeling was fine.
