Abstract

In this paper, roll behavior of a full vehicle is analyzed using screw axis theory. In this study, roll screw axis is considered as instant screw axis of the vehicle body with respect to ground, which is different from the conventional definition of roll axis. A full vehicle model is converted into instantaneous equivalent model at each roll step to find roll screw axis. Instant screw axis of wheel relative to ground in symmetric position is assumed to pass through wheel contact point with direction of driving, and it is estimated by finite screw axis of wheel with respect to ground for small roll displacement. Using the proposed method, roll displacement of the vehicle body, wheel contact point variations, and locus of roll screw axis are calculated.
