Abstract

This paper describes a tool that automates the creation of reliablity and safety analyses (like FMEA's) from a system simulation of a whole vehicle or subsystem. This automation guarantees that the safety analysis is always in track with the system being developed, it also removes the majority of the subjective judgment involved in manually performing such an analysis ensuring a more consistent result. A steer-by-wire system is used as an example in the paper, showing that the tool correctly handles a combination of software (control systems), electrical (motors, sensors), and mechanical systems (the steering rack, etc).
