Abstract

In December 2002, Honda produced the first practical fuel cell vehicle, delivering models to the Japanese government and to the City of Los Angeles in the United States. To encourage greater public acceptance of fuel cell vehicles, Honda announced a new stack with enhanced performance in low temperatures in October 2003 and installed it in the New Honda FCX. This is the first fuel cell vehicle that can be used below freezing temperature. Vehicles were delivered to New York state in November 2004 and to Hokkaido in January 2005. This paper introduces Honda´s fuel cell vehicle, the first to be used in both temperate and cold regions in major cities worldwide.
