Abstract
An experimental study has been carried out on the effects of various injection strategies on the combustion and emission formation processes in a D.I. Diesel engine cylinder. The total in-cylinder sampling technique was adopted in this study. The sampling system includes a fast-acting blow-down valve installed in the cylinder head, and a collection system which can quickly transfer the in-cylinder contents into a large sampling chamber. The concentrations of soot, unburned total hydrocarbons (THC) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) were measured at the different crank angles to obtain in-cylinder histories of these combustion products. The effects of multiple injection strategies, including pilot-main injection and main-post injection, were investigated in the experimental engine with the sampling system.
