Abstract

From the perspective of protecting the global environment through emissions restrictions and fuel consumption reduction, automotive engine technology is continuing to advance. Direct injection is moving forward as an item for reducing fuel consumption in gasoline engines. In recent years, systems that combine direct injection, supercharging, and variable valvetrain are drawing attention. It is no exaggeration to say that, for direct injection engines, the fuel injection performance determines the engine performance. In this research, we studied the application of multi-hole plate nozzle, which we have applied to PFI injector, to SIDI injector and report below mechanism and potential of its spray formation, including contribution to fine atomization and low spray tip penetration.
