Abstract

A hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) model has established for the verification of hybrid electronic control units in a hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) system. The HEV simulation model is a complete vehicle model with a conventional combustion engine, motor, battery and transmission implemented. Besides the actual vehicle model, the simulation model includes models for the environment (e.g. road profile, ambient temperature, etc.) and the driver, which allows simulation of driving cycles with specific velocity and road profiles. The simulation model can be used to verify the control strategy as well as the correctness of the implemented electronic control unit (ECU) software even before a prototype of the hybrid propulsion system is available. This paper gives a more detailed overview on the various model components of the hybrid power train and the prerequisite in the modelling for the realtime simulation, and shows simulation results of battery charging/discharging cycles and fuel consumption calculation obtained from the closed-loop operation.
