Abstract
In S.I. Gasoline Engine, knocking constrains allowable highest compression ratio meaning improvement of fuel consumption and power output restricted by possible spark timing advance. It is very important to simultaneously observe flame propagation and knocking occurrence in order to recognize knocking phenomenon, which are influenced by engine design specifications, combustion concepts, In-cylinder mixture formation process, engine operation conditions. Hereunder, with using ion-current probes that are mounted in whole combustion chamber wall including moving intake and exhaust valves, the newly finding relations between flame propagation and knocking are described intimately for experimental single cylinder direct injection engine.
