Abstract

In the automotive industry, the low-mid frequency design of vehicle panels and sound package with respect to highly demanding NVH targets is typically one of the main issues in vehicle development. It is important to tackle this problem in a fast and efficient way and be able to reliably cover the complete field from materials to complete vehicle characterization. Simulation and simulation-based optimization can be a valuable support for the solution of this difficult problem. Around this core competence, by combining internal and existing simulation tools, Rieter has implemented a series of methodologies used today in vehicle industry. In particular, an overview of the latest techniques devoted to the simultaneous optimization of vehicle panels structure and damping treatment, and to the simulation of soft trim components, like for instance the floor carpet, is given in this paper.
