Abstract

Abstract

Recently the progress of existing functions of vehicle control system and the addition of new functions, such as vehicle movement control system related to ITS and navigation system applied information technology, have been rapidly increasing the number of electronic control units(ECUs) loaded on vehicle.
Especially IT system (Navigation, audio, etc.) is characterized by their large number of functions and very rapid technology innovation, and are different from the body electronics ECU. So new approaches which are different from conventional development way are required. On the other hand, the requirement of shortening the vehicle development period makes it very important that system evaluation should be executed certenly and without no rework. On the basis of such situation we took note of the IT system evaluation process. As for IT system, it is usual that the function which is executed by an operation of the customer is realized by several ECUs using network. So it is difficult to evaluate these network functions in the unit testing at ECU-makers. Therefore these functions used to be tested in the combination function testing at Car-makers using all ECUs. We have developed a system that can validate network protocol and simulate network communication, and applied this system to unit testing. As the result, this system has made it possible to evaluate and assure the network functions according to customer operation before combination function testing, and then it
made it possible to prevent rework of ECU development at the phase of combination function testing.
This paper gives an overview of the development of the evaluation system and evaluation application using this system, and also the functionality and capabilities required to the evaluation systems in the future.
