Abstract

Advanced Driver assistance systems represent a substantial challenge in the
development of future vehicles. They have grown from research into a serious development
and have matured to an attractive product family, which receives an increasing importance in
the most desirable rankings of automotive innovations.
Thus, driver assistance systems became one of the main topics of increasing popularity at
automotive engineering conferences or exhibitions. Assistance and supply of information for
the driver as well as the safety aspect of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) hold
promise for a great success story. In contrast to this, restrictions and pitfalls for the vehicle
manufacturer, in case of a too fast introduction into the market, must be addressed
This paper describes possibilities and chances for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems as
well as their limits and potential risks.
