Abstract:
Diesel urban buses and refuse trucks are part of the particulate emissions sources that affect the city air quality. Several Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) systems were proposed to reduce such emissions. But the reliability and the durability of the current DPF systems remain an issue especially during “stop & go” duty cycles. To fit particularly this duty cycle, a new active Diesel particulate filter system, called ExoClean™, was recently developed in order to achieve the durability and reliability issues. The ExoClean™ filter system was also evaluated by the French EPA (ADEME) through refuse trucks and urban buses applications over more than a 12 months program. The filter system demonstrated high efficiency and durability. The ExoClean™ filter system received the VERT Verification. In order to extend the field of applications, further improvements have been developed, and will be presented, such as: > Association with a fuel-borne catalyst (FBC) > Downsizing of the filter system > Association with NOx reduction devices Other commercial world wide implementations reported demonstrate the attractiveness of the ExoClean™ system.
