Abstract
Kinematic analysis plays an important role in the design of kinematic chains with gears and a thorough understanding of the subject is fundamental towards achieving an optimal solution. This study aims at providing an algebraic method to compute the velocities of a closed kinematic chain with gears. The method of contour equations is very efficient and can be applied to planar and spatial epicyclic gear trains.
