Abstract

Abstract

Continuous reduction of emission limits requires new combustion processes as well as improved components for motor management. The key requirement for sensor systems is cost neutral tolerance improvement of sensors as well as their interfaces. In this paper the interfaces currently in use, analog voltage and frequency interface, are compared to a new digital interface proposal called SENT interface. Especially for sensors with digital signal conditioning, SENT interface has appreciable advantages regarding stationary tolerance as well as reliability. Due to the digital nature of the signal an improved EMC behavior compared to analog voltage interfaces is expected. SENT interface is the proposal of an international engineering team consisting of several OEMs and sensor suppliers. The final SENT specification will be an open SAE industry standard, which can be used license free by all OEM and sensor suppliers. This is an essential requirement for cost effective sensor mass production.
