Abstract :

Today, automotive industry is facing major technological challenges. More and more power and comfort are expected from the internal combustion engine which much also be very fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly and quiet. However contradictory these demands may seem, the challenge must be taken up and this inevitably means using high performance materials. Imphy alloys is more and more concerned about actively helping the automotive industry to fulfill its mission. Indeed, by adapting and developing its alloys range to provide dedicated and specific solutions, Imphy alloys wants to support the current and future developments of the automotive industry. After describing the on going automotive applications of FeNi and FeCo alloys, this paper points out the introduction of special and dedicated alloy solutions based on high performance new materials. It stresses that alloy innovation remains one of the key for both a successful response to these challenges and a cost efficient solution when all the consequences of alloy introduction is taken into account.
