Abstract

Abstract

The requirements on vehicle emission control have to meet ever-increasing demands. In order to achieve these tight emission control requirements, combustion engines need to display higher efficiency, and faster and more precise dynamics. Therefore modern solutions in engine controls commonly involve electrically actuated or regulated valves, throttles and turbines. Sonceboz develops and delivers torque motors for applications that operate in harsh engine environment, such as Exhaust Gas Recirculation valves, throttle bodies, Variable Turbine Geometry. The torque motor displays a high torque/mass ratio, boost capability, constant nominal torque on the range, with an integrated contactless sensor in a robust design. Typical benefits to the customer include compactness, Euro IV and V compatibility, simple design, reliability and high lifetime. Sonceboz torque motors have been in production since 2000, and have exceeded customer expectations. This paper presents the basic principles of the torque motor, construction details and descriptions of typical applications. A new concept is also introduced in this paper for the first time.
