Abstract:

This work reports the performance of a gas identification system based on metal oxide gas sensors. A sensor array consisting of six commercial gas sensors has been used to analyze different gases resulting mainly from the automotive activities. Three different working temperatures are selected for each sensor in order to enhance the selectivity. First, the system is used to discriminate four gases: ammonia, hydrogen sulphide, carbon monoxide and nitrogen monoxide. In a second step, the quantification of CO and NO concentrations in their binary mixtures is performed. The experimental results show the efficiency of this system for identification of various gases. Moreover, the CO and NO concentrations are measured with sufficient accuracy.
