Abstract
Over the next few years, emission reduction will be a major challenge for the automotive industry. Innovative engine combustion modes with improved strategies for the engine control unit (ECU) are among the most promising technologies to achieve this goal. These strategies require compact, accurate crankshaft position and speed measurement systems. A few years ago, Electricfil Automotive developed technology, based on a magnet ring system (MRS), in order to provide a cost-effective solution.1 Integration on a support of the sensor, magnet ring and engine seal reduces weight and allows greater ease of assembly. Recent improvements in modularity and performance have extended MRS functionalities, leading to an attractive solution for next-generation engine requirements.
