Lowering the raw emissions of diesel engines will be an integral part of the efforts to meet future emissions legislations. In order to optimize the combustion process, the control loop needs to be closed by feeding back precise information on the actual pressure en the combustion chamber in the control strategy. Siemens VDO Automotive, together with Federal Mogul has developed a glow plug integrated pressure sensor to an advanced sample state. This robust sensor element offers direct pressure measurement and is designed to work with ceramic glow plug heating elements.
